At Ikkaasaashramseva society, we encounter stories that remind us of the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of compassion. Today, we want to share the journey of a man we rescued from Dhaleke village in Moga, Punjab—a story that highlights the importance of mental health care and the impact of unconditional love and support.
The Day We Found Him
Our team received a call from a concerned villager in Dhaleke about a man living in extremely poor mental and physical condition near a farm motor (khet). When we arrived at the location, we were heartbroken by what we saw. The man was in a state of severe distress, surrounded by bones of animals that he had collected and saved. It was clear that he was deeply troubled, and his mental health had deteriorated significantly.
The villagers shared that he had been living like this for months, if not years. He was unable to communicate coherently and seemed to be trapped in his world of pain and confusion. Despite his condition, there was a glimmer of humanity in his eyes, and we knew we had to help him.

The Rescue Mission
With great care and compassion, our team approached him and gently brought him to our shelter. It was a challenging task, as he was initially hesitant and fearful. However, our team’s patience and kindness helped him feel safe. Upon arrival at our facility, we immediately began assessing his condition.
It was evident that he needed urgent mental health care. He was malnourished, dehydrated, and suffering from severe psychological trauma. Our medical and counselling teams worked together to create a treatment plan tailored to his needs.
The Road to Recovery
The first few weeks were critical. We provided him with nutritious meals, a clean and comfortable environment, and round-the-clock care. Our counsellors spent hours with him, trying to build trust and understand his pain. Slowly but surely, he began to open up.
We discovered that he had experienced significant trauma in his life, which had led to his current state. The bones he collected were a manifestation of his inner turmoil—a way for him to cope with his pain. With proper medication, therapy, and care, we began to see remarkable improvements in his condition.
A New Chapter
Today, he is still under our care, and his journey to recovery continues. While he is not yet fully healed, he is in a much better place than when we first found him. He is more communicative, participates in daily activities, and has even started to smile occasionally. His progress is a testament to the power of love, patience, and professional care.
